For years I’ve had the belief that the Administrative Profession has the unique ability to take a single Mom instantly out of poverty and into a living wage by giving them the skills and training they need to be successful in an entry-level Administrative Position, creating permanent self-sufficiency.
Imagine people going from minimum wage – or any wage that’s difficult to survive on, to being able to pay for housing, groceries, daycare and more – all on their own?
Enter Women’s Empowerment Institute (WEI), an organization committed to exactly this mission. A super-smart, no fluff 10-week training program that gives women the opportunity to gain the exact skills – hard and soft, needed to succeed in the Administrative Profession – at no cost to them.
This is especially critical at a time when so many hospitality workers are unemployed and trying to re-establish themselves. The Admin Awards believes it’s our responsibility to help our country solve some of the problems created by the Pandemic, so the timing of this partnership is perfect.
Created by the daughter of a single mother and immigrant, Gina Avila saw first-hand the impact that unemployment had on her family, how the lack of social capital made finding opportunities much more difficult, and knew there had to be a solution, which was the genesis for WEI.

At each Admin Awards event in 2021, we’ll be offering a fun raffle prize – a way to get you excited about a chance to win something amazing while helping raise money to put another student – or two through their program. It costs $3,000 to create an Administrative Professional, and our hope is that at the end of 2021 we’ll have created 9!
